We were very honoured to be invited to the Irish Guards

Service of Memorial and Thanksgiving at St Georges Chapel and afterwards to the

presentation of medals at Victoria Barracks by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The bands led the soldiers into the Castle before the

service, which was both moving and humbling. The Rev'd Battey, who was also

stationed in Afghanistan,

gave an excellent address and candles were lit for the three men who were

killed in action. After the Last Post there was a minutes silence before

Reveille and prayers, followed by a heartfelt 'Onward Christian Soldiers' and

National Anthem accompanied by the bands.

The Battalion then marched around Windsor town before coming back to Victoria

Barracks for the medal presentation. The Duke and Duchess looked very at ease

with the soldiers and spent as much time as they could talking to as many as

possible, before the Duke spoke of his respect for them all.

We were then treated to lunch and were able to chat to the

soldiers and their families which was very interesting before Captain Robbie

Wilmont gave us a tour around the Sergeants mess showing us all the fantastic

history and memorabilia there. We'd like to thank the Irish Guards and Robbie

in particular for the great hospitality shown to us.
