Police divers were called to the Thames in Windsor on Thursday near Barry Avenue and River Street after a member of the public spotted a body floating face down in the water.

The body was seen around 9.45 on Thursday morning in the river opposite the ice rink in Alexandra Gardens and the alarm was raised.

The towpath was cordoned off while forensics and the police search and recovery team worked to retrieve the body and by noon they had done so.

No further details have yet been released about the identity of the person or even if it was a man or a woman. Police are treating the death as unexplained while the investigation continues.
