A school that used to exist once upon a time ago in Windsor....

From the nineties to noughties. Me, outside my old school
the nineties, there used to be a school at the end of Bourne Avenue, which went
by the name of Princess Margaret Royal Free School (PMRF). It was inaugurated by HMH
Princess Margaret. It was a mixed school with 200 students at a time. The
uniform had to be purchased from Caleys department store at the top of the High
street. Back then, the prices of the uniform was steep and for an average
middle class family, it was expensive buying more than one skirt and blazer.
The uniform for girls was a tartan skirt in green and blue and for the three years
I had been there, one skirt lasted me well. It was of such a great quality
material.
It was
in this school that I recognised my passion for writing and met a very kind
teacher who encouraged this. Her name was Theresa O' Sullivan and she used to
come to school in an old Beetles car. She reminded me of a young Winona Ryder
with her jet black hair with a fringe; and black attire with doc marten boots.
My head teacher, Mr Hutchinson was very much liked by everyone. He would appear
in classes, throw a few jokes around and have pupils laughing.
So after
many years, when I found out that PMRF had closed, I was stunned. I was baffled
even more when I could not find any news on why it had been closed, and there
has been no news of it on the internet either. I wonder if it would be a good
idea to start collecting and collating memoirs belonging to the history of
Windsor and share it in one place; for example on the internet. I am certain there
are many like me who wonder what had happened to some places that have
disappeared from the face of Windsor without knowing any reason. And those who
know can be a part of adding the vital pieces to the jigsaw of mapping our
Windsor memoirs together.
What do
you think?
