The UK's biggest ever survey of swimmers has put Eton in the top ten of favourite places to swim.

In the survey of 36,000 swimmers commissioned by Swimathon, the world's biggest fundraising swim, Eton was named as being the third favourite Open Water swimming spot at Dorney Lake - after The Sea, and the River Thames.

Other nearby favourite swims are based at Heron Lake, Staines, as well as the Thames Club in Staines, Hampton Open Air Pool, Aldershot Garrison, Guildford Lido and Guildford Spectrum Centre, as well as several London pools and open water sites.

The UK's favourite indoor swim is at Pond's Forge, Sheffield, while the favourite outdoor swim is London Fields, and the favourite Open Water Swim is 'The Sea' with most votes going to Cornwall.

People answering the survey said their favourite thing to do while swimming was to relax and forget the stresses and strains of the day.

And we agree that swimming in the beautiful surroundings at Dorney Lake, you're bound to feel relaxed.

This year’s Swimathon is set to hit 580 pools across the UK between 8-10 April, when over 20,000 swimmers will aim to raise more than £2 million for Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Swimathon Foundation. These funds will help support Marie Curie Nurses who provide free nursing care to people with terminal cancer and other terminal illnesses, in the place of their choice. The charity expects to care for over 29,000 terminally ill patients in the community and in its hospices this year.Sessions for the 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k challenges are starting to sell out. To reserve a place visit www.swimathon.org or call 0845 36 700 36.
