Students from Brown's Taekwon-Do school officiated at an Army Martial Arts Association (AMAA) competition held in the recently opened Combat Sports Centre in Aldershot.

The competition which is held annually comprises of a variety of martial arts including Karate, Taekwon-Do and Kendo.  Service Personnel of all levels travelled from all over the country to take part in the competition.   Black belts and senior coloured belts from Brown's Taekwon-Do school were invited to judge the Taekwon-Do competition which included patterns and sparring.

The AMAA is open to all Martial Arts practitioners in the British Army.  Its aim is to actively promote and encourage Martial Arts within the British Army. Most of the soldiers train in martial arts clubs in their local community during their time off.  The Army Martial Arts competition allows them to demonstrate their skills in their chosen art and if successful they can be selected to represent the Army and Inter-services at selected civilian competitions.  Open patterns were added this year as a new event.  Competitors were encouraged to stretch their imagination to produce a series of moves against imaginary opponents - the more spectacular use of "weapons, music, flying kicks and jumping punches" the better.  Approximately fifteen different events were run throughout the day.  Senior Master Wayne Brown, Senior Official at the competition is the Taekwon-Do coach for the AMAA and holds regular training sessions in Aldershot for service personnel.

Members of the Household Cavalry based in Windsor and London took part and had successes in Taekwon-Do with Mr Aftab Hussain, a civil servant, who won gold in the patterns and Captain Nic Stewart the Mounted Regiments Quartermaster took bronze in a tough sparring contest.

If you are interested in learning a martial art that will keep you fit and healthy, improve your confidence and self-esteem, whilst at the same time enabling you to make new friends, why not visit Brown’s Taekwon-Do.  We are always happy to see new faces and welcome people of all ages.  Come and watch us train, talk to our members and find out if Taekwon-Do could be for you.
